Cave Spiders

There are over 1000 species of spiders that have been identified in caves worldwide. The smallest spider ever found (0.4 mm) and the largest (30 cm) were found in caves. Some have undergone evolutionary adaptation such as the absence of eyes.

I’m not a biologist so I can’t positively identify the spiders pictured here, but both photos are from caves in Thailand so they are most likely from the Liphistiidae family.

A large cave spider found in Tham Lod. Approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter.
This one was found in Chiang Dao cave. Approximately 4 inches (10.16 cm) in diameter.
